Covid 19 Header (4)
Return to Restricted Play
Always follow the Government Guidelines of:
Good Hand Hygiene – Respiratory Etiquette – Social Distancing
This ‘Covid-19 Return to Play Protocol: Phase 1’, prepared by TTC in conjunction with Tennis Ireland, covers each step of the journey from home to the club gate and back home again, and should be in place seven days a week until further notice. The guidelines relate to Phase 1 of the Irish Government’s Roadmap for Reopening Society and Business.

Key Arrangements

1. The clubhouse will remain closed. The defibrillator will be accessible outside the clubhouse.

2. Access to club grounds, via back entrance only, will be manned.

3. Before playing, members are required to read and consent to the COVID-19 protocol. The link to the consent is at the end of this protocol.  In the interest of health and safety, any members not adhering to the protocols will not be permitted onto the club grounds.

4. Both singles and doubles play will be permitted; however, doubles pairings must be strictly from the same household.

5. Bookings for all courts must be made online only. All player names must be included in the booking, and any changes need to be updated online. No walk ins, and no sign-in is required.

Our measures and procedures are under constant review and updated as advice from government, health authorities and governing bodies evolves in line with the gradual lifting of social restrictions.

Before You Play

You must stay at home if you:

  • Or any of your household members have COVID-19 symptoms (fever, cough, shortness of breath).
  • Have been in contact with someone with COVID-19 in the last 14 days.
  • Have been overseas or exposed to someone with COVID-19 in the last 14 days.
  • Live outside a 5km radius of the club.
Attending Tennis Activities

The club will be open from 8:45am – 9pm only. No access will be permitted outside this period.

  • Pre book your court online. No sign-in is required.
  • Start times are staggered across the courts.
  • Each booking will have 80 mins of play and 10 mins buffer between slots.
  • Booking facility will open at 7pm 3 days in advance.
  • A maximum of 3 bookings per week per member is allowed, max 1 per day, ie, each member is permitted to play a maximum of 3 times per week.
  • Players must cancel any unwanted bookings as a courtesy to fellow members.
  • Members must not organise to meet in groups, swap courts while at the club, or remain on the club premises once the booking is over.
  • Up to the minute bookings and cancellations are permitted to allow “live” court bookings.
  • Only people core to playing should attend tennis activities such as players, coaches and operational personnel.
  • Access to the club is via the back entrance only.
  • Arrive as close as possible to when you are due on court.
  • Upon arrival, check in at the ‘COVID Security’ point and remain in your car until your allocated court booking time.
  • If travelling on foot or bike, remain in the designated waiting area.
  • Follow the signed routes to your designated court observing all one way and right of way passageways.
  • A parent/guardian must accompany any player under 15 years. Only 1 adult per 2 juniors should supervise.
  • Both singles and doubles play will be permitted; however, doubles pairings must be strictly from the same household.
  • Singles RRs & mixed RRs can be played on a booked court for the maximum allocated time of 80 minutes (provided doubles pairings are from the same household). If your match does not finish in this time period, you will need to resume the match at another time. The third set is a championship tie break. Alternatively, you can use the Fast 4 format to reduce match time – see here for rules. Submit your scores to the captains by WhatsApp; scores will be published on the website weekly.
  • Players should arrive ready to play as there will be no access to changing rooms during this phase.
  • Players should ensure that they utilise toilet facilities in their own home prior to arriving at the club as toilet facilities will not be available during this phase.
  • Players should, ideally, bring a small bottle of hand sanitizer with them and keep it in their pocket or bag for use.
Tennis Balls
  • Practice caution with the tennis balls.
  • Although there is no specific evidence that tennis balls can spread COVID-19, we know that contamination from respiratory droplets can potentially survive on hard surfaces for up to three days.
  • Replace balls if someone suspected of having COVID 19 comes in contact with them.
  • Consider spraying balls with a disinfectant spray at the conclusion of play. Using new balls on a very regular basis is highly encouraged.
Social Distancing Behaviours

To protect against the possible spread of the virus:

  • Do not bring unnecessary equipment onto the courts such as excessive bags, racquets etc.
  • Bring sufficient water as taps will be unavailable.
  • Players must refrain from any physical contact including handshakes.
  • Keep 2 metres away from other people at all times.
  • Do not share food, towels and drinks.
  • Sanitise your hands frequently at the stations provided.
  • Cover your coughs / sneezes, dispose of any used tissues in your own bag and bring them home with you as there will be no bins available on site.
  • Avoid touching your face.
  • There can be no spitting to clear congestion/phlegm on court or around grounds. Please use tissues or wipes and store these in your bag after use.
  • Try not to touch any surfaces, but if you do, sanitise your hands as soon as possible.
  • When serving, use your own set of marked tennis balls. We recommend you only use 2 tennis balls.
  • Use your racquet / foot to pick up balls and hit them to your opponent.  Avoid using your hands to pick the balls.
  • If a ball from another court comes across, send it back with a kick or with a racquet.
When Play Finishes

All tennis should finish promptly after the 80 mins allocated booking period is up.

  • Once play has finished, players should leave the club promptly.
  • Hands should be washed and sanitised as soon as possible.
  • Ensure equipment is cleaned thoroughly after use.
  • Tennis balls can be sprayed with a disinfectant.
  • Should any player using the club develop COVID 19 symptoms, they should first contact their GP/HSE and then inform TTC. The club will then follow advice provided to them by the HSE on the next steps.
  • Members should be encouraged to remind other members of the guidelines, in a gentle way, when they witness poor practices.
  • Repeated poor practice should be reported to the club as soon as possible.
Coaching
  • In Phase 1, coaching is permitted as follows: ‘one to one’ (individual coaching) or ‘one to two’ (either 2 players from the same household, or 2 players from different households if both players stay at opposite ends of the court) or 'one to three' (if all 3 players are from the same household) - per TI guidelines.
  • Contact coaches directly who will book a court – only courts 8 & 12 can be used for coaching under our 'Return to Play' protocol. Coaches' contact details are on the club website here.
  • Coaching sessions will be for one hour, as normal.
  • Players should never touch the coaches’ tennis balls. If practicing serving, the player must provide their own tennis balls.
  • Otherwise, normal playing and social distancing rules apply.
