Covid 19 Phase 3
Return to Restricted Play
Always follow the Government Guidelines of:
Good Hand Hygiene – Respiratory Etiquette – Social Distancing
This ‘Covid-19 Return to Play Protocol: Phase 3’, prepared by TTC in conjunction with Tennis Ireland, covers each step of the journey from home to the club gate and back home again, and should be in place seven days a week until further notice. The guidelines relate to Phase 3 of the Irish Government’s Roadmap for Reopening Society and Business.

Key Arrangements:
1. Before playing, members are required to have read and consented to the COVID-19 protocol.

2. Bookings for all courts must be made online only. All player names must be included in the booking, and any changes need to be updated online. No walk ins, and no sign-in is required.

3. The club will be accessible from both front and back, and there is no check in required.

4. Contact tracing will be facilitated via the online booking system and through the use of fobs. Everyone must use their own fob when entering the club.

5. Both Singles and Doubles play is permitted; doubles pairs can be with people from outside of their household, as long as players remain 2 metres apart as much as possible.

6. Coaches are allowed to work with up to 6 players per court subject to social distancing practices being implemented.

7. The bar will be open 17:30 – 22:00 Monday -Friday and 13:00 – 22:00 Saturday – Sunday. No prebooking is required and capacity will be limited. People must be seated at all times at tables with a maximum of 6 people per table. Food & drink must be ordered via WhatsApp and payment is contactless (club smartcard).

8. All changing rooms including toilets and showers will reopen from Monday June 29th. Appropriate cleaning protocols have been put in place.

Our measures and procedures are under constant review and updated as advice from government, health authorities and governing bodies evolves in line with the gradual lifting of social restrictions.

Before You Play

You must stay at home if you:

  • Or any of your household members have COVID-19 symptoms (fever, cough, shortness of breath).
  • Have been in contact with someone with COVID-19 in the last 14 days.
  • Have been overseas or exposed to someone with COVID-19 in the last 14 days.
Attending Tennis Activities

The club will be open from 8:45am – 10:20pm only. No access will be permitted outside this period.

  • Pre book your court online. No sign-in is required.
  • Start times are staggered across the courts.
  • Each booking will have 80 mins of play and 10 mins buffer between slots.
  • Booking facility will open at 7pm 3 days in advance.
  • A maximum of 4 bookings per week per member is allowed, max 1 per day, ie, each member is permitted to play a maximum of 4 times per week.
  • Players must cancel any unwanted bookings as a courtesy to fellow members.
  • Up to the minute bookings and cancellations are permitted to allow “live” court bookings.
  • Only people core to playing should attend tennis activities such as players, coaches and operational personnel.
  • Arrive as close as possible to when you are due on court.
  • Follow the signed routes to your designated court observing all one way and right of way passageways.
  • A parent/guardian must accompany any player under 15 years. Only 1 adult per 2 juniors should supervise.
  • Both singles and doubles play is permitted with people from outside of their household, as long as players remain 2 metres apart as much as possible.
  • RR matches must be played on booked courts with a maximum time limit of 80 minutes, which means a truncated form of play. Players can decide the format to facilitate a result after 80 minutes eg, Fast4 format etc. Results should be posted as normal on sheets in the clubhouse lobby.
  • Players should, ideally, bring a small bottle of hand sanitizer with them and keep it in their pocket or bag for use.
Tennis Balls
  • Players do not need to use their own clearly marked tennis balls – however, if they choose to use shared balls then extra care must be taken to ensure they do not touch their face during play, and should clean their hands before play and immediately afterwards (using sanitising gel if required).
  • Practice caution with the tennis balls.
  • Although there is no specific evidence that tennis balls can spread COVID-19, we know that contamination from respiratory droplets from an infected person can potentially survive on hard surfaces for up to three days.
  • Replace balls if someone suspected of having COVID 19 comes in contact with them.
  • Consider spraying balls with a disinfectant spray at the conclusion of play. Using new balls on a very regular basis is highly encouraged.
Changing Rooms
  • All changing rooms including toilets and showers will reopen from Monday June 29th. Appropriate cleaning protocols have been put in place.

Social Distancing Behaviours

To protect against infection:

  • Physical distancing should continue to be observed throughout the period of play, particularly on change of ends and entering and exiting the court.
  • Players should change ends at opposite sides of the net.
  • Players should continue to refrain from physical contact including handshakes.
  • Equipment such as towels, food, and drink should not be exchanged between players.
  • Players should avoid touching their face after handling a ball, racquet, or other equipment.
  • Players should still avoid using their hands to pick up tennis balls from other courts where possible - use your racquet / foot to return them.
  • Sanitise your hands frequently at the stations provided.
  • Cover your coughs / sneezes, dispose of any used tissues in your own bag and bring them home with you as there will be no bins available on site.
  • There should be no spitting to clear congestion/phlegm on court or around grounds. Please use tissues or wipes and store these in your bag after use.
  • Try not to touch any surfaces, but if you do, sanitise your hands as soon as possible.
When Play Finishes

All tennis should finish promptly after the 80 mins allocated booking period is up.

  • Hands should be washed and sanitised as soon as possible.
  • Ensure equipment is cleaned thoroughly after use.
  • Tennis balls can be sprayed with a disinfectant.
  • Should any player using the club develop COVID 19 symptoms, they should first contact their GP/HSE and then inform TTC. The club will then follow advice provided to them by the HSE on the next steps.
  • Members should be encouraged to remind other members of the guidelines, in a gentle way, when they witness poor practices.
  • Repeated poor practice should be reported to the club as soon as possible.
Coaching
  • In Phase 3, Coaches are allowed to work with up to 6 players per court subject to social distancing practices being implemented.
  • For private lessons, contact coaches directly who will book a court – only courts 8 & 12 can be used for coaching under our 'Return to Play' protocol. Coaches' contact details are on the club website here.
  • Coaching sessions will be for one hour, as normal.
  • Otherwise, normal playing and social distancing rules apply.
